Understanding impact levels
High impact
Rate decisions, NFP, CPI, GDP. Expect real volatility. The measured figure next to each event shows what it has actually done to price, which is not always what the label promises.
Medium impact
Trade balances, retail sales, secondary employment data. Moderate moves are typical, with occasional outliers when the surprise is large.
Low impact
Minor reports and routine speeches. Usually little market reaction, though our measured numbers occasionally catch a sneaky mover the labels miss.
