Australia’s Consumer Price Index (CPI) was released at 102.3 today, 2026-07-29 01:32 UTC. This figure came in above the market consensus of 100, representing a 2.3% surprise. The previous CPI reading was 101.7.

Following the release, the Australian dollar showed declines across major pairs. AUDCAD was down 27 pips 15 minutes after the release, while AUDCHF fell 17 pips. AUDJPY declined by 38 pips, and AUDUSD was down 22 pips. AUDNZD saw a 23 pip drop. Conversely, EURAUD gained 46 pips, and GBPAUD rose 50 pips over the same 15-minute period. For context, the 15-minute moves observed for AUDCAD, AUDCHF, AUDJPY, AUDNZD, and AUDUSD are all larger than their respective median 1-hour moves of 21, 16, 20, 22, and 17 pips after past releases. The 15-minute move for EURAUD, at 46 pips, is also larger than its median 1-hour move of 38 pips, and GBPAUD’s 50 pip gain is larger than its median 1-hour move of 45 pips.
