CFTC COT Report, Week to July 21, 2026: Japanese Yen Net Speculative Position Falls 6k
The largest shift in speculative positioning last week saw leveraged funds increase their net short Japanese Yen exposure by 5.7k contracts. Overall, the week to July 21, 2026, showed continued growth in net short positions across several major currencies for leveraged funds.
In Japanese Yen, leveraged funds’ net short position grew to -96.2k contracts. Asset managers also held a significant net short of -79.9k contracts, with legacy speculators net short -152.1k contracts.
Leveraged funds in Canadian Dollar also saw their net short position grow by 5.6k contracts, reaching -98.4k contracts. This net short position is now at the lower end of its 52-week range. Asset managers similarly held a substantial net short of -98.2k contracts.
For the Euro, leveraged funds increased their net short position by 3.0k contracts, bringing their total net short to -56.7k contracts. This marks a 52-week extreme for leveraged funds in Euro. In contrast, asset managers maintained a large net long position of +228.9k contracts.
British Pound saw leveraged funds increase their net long position by 4.7k contracts, bringing their total to +33.2k contracts. Meanwhile, asset managers held a substantial net short position of -119.1k contracts.
Open interest in Japanese Yen futures increased notably by +27.3k contracts.
