CFTC COT Report, Week to July 7, 2026: Japanese Yen Net Speculative Position Rises 25k

This week’s CFTC Commitments of Traders report, covering the period to July 7, 2026, showed significant shifts in speculator positioning. The most notable movement was in the Japanese Yen, where leveraged funds significantly reduced their net short exposure.

Leveraged funds’ net short position in the Japanese Yen shrank by +25.3k contracts, bringing their total net short to -90.1k. This movement occurred as asset managers maintained a net short position of -48.7k contracts, while legacy speculators were net short -123.8k contracts.

In contrast, leveraged funds’ net short position in the Euro grew by -12.8k contracts, reaching -45.5k. This current net short position is at the lower end of its 52-week net range of -45.5k to +56.1k. Asset managers hold a substantial net long of +253.9k contracts.

Leveraged funds’ net short in the Canadian Dollar also shrank, rising by +2.1k contracts to -86.0k. This net short position remains near its 52-week extreme of -88.1k. Asset managers are net short -108.3k contracts.

For the Mexican Peso, leveraged funds’ net long position shrank slightly by -0.4k contracts, settling at +54.9k. This net long position is still near its 52-week high of +75.8k. Asset managers were net long +36.4k contracts.

Total open interest in the Japanese Yen saw a notable decrease of -40.7k contracts.
