CFTC COT Report, Week to June 30, 2026: Japanese Yen Net Speculative Position Falls 18k
The latest CFTC Commitments of Traders report, covering the week to June 30, 2026, shows that speculators largely reduced their exposure across several major currencies. The most significant shift was seen in the Japanese Yen, where leveraged funds cut their net short positions by 18.3k contracts.
Leveraged funds’ net short Japanese Yen position now stands at 115.4k contracts, marking a 52-week low for this group. Asset managers also held a net short position of 68.7k contracts in JPY. In the Euro, leveraged funds reduced their net short position by 17.2k contracts, bringing their total net short to 32.6k contracts, which is also a 52-week low. Asset managers, however, maintained a substantial net long Euro position of 255.2k contracts.
Canadian Dollar positioning saw leveraged funds increase their net short by 4.7k contracts, reaching a net short of 88.1k contracts. This represents a 52-week low for leveraged funds in CAD. Asset managers were also net short 81.2k contracts. In contrast, leveraged funds increased their net long British Pound position by 8.7k contracts, resulting in a net long of 16.3k contracts. Asset managers held a significant net short position of 156.3k contracts in GBP.
Open interest in Japanese Yen futures increased by 7.8k contracts, and New Zealand Dollar open interest rose by 7.0k contracts.
