The biggest shift in the week to October 27 was in the yen, where leveraged funds saw their net position rise by 8.3k contracts to -14.6k as the net short shrank. Elsewhere the picture leaned the other way. Leveraged funds’ net short grew in the euro, Canadian dollar, Swiss franc and New Zealand dollar, while net longs shrank in the pound and Australian dollar. The Mexican peso was the only other currency where leveraged funds’ net position rose.

In the euro, leveraged funds are net short 71.6k contracts after the net short grew by 2.7k. That sits at the low end of the 52-week net range of -71.6k to +56.1k. Asset managers hold the opposite stance at +173.2k, while legacy speculators are net short 143.9k.

In the yen, leveraged funds remain net short at -14.6k, well above the 52-week low of -115.4k. Asset managers are net long 91.2k and legacy speculators are net long 101.6k, so those groups sit on the other side of leveraged funds.

The Canadian dollar saw leveraged funds’ net short grow by 5.6k to -96.7k. That is near the low end of its 52-week range of -102.5k to -31.7k. Legacy speculators are also net short, at 66.4k.

In the pound and Australian dollar, leveraged funds are still net long but the net long shrank in both. The pound net long fell 6.9k to +17.2k, and the Australian dollar net long fell 4.1k to +48.4k. Asset managers are net short in both, at 128.9k in the pound and 125.2k in the Australian dollar.

In the Mexican peso, leveraged funds’ net long grew by 4.5k to +68.3k, within a 52-week range of +43.1k to +90.0k.

Open interest fell in eight of the nine contracts. The Canadian dollar saw the largest drop at -22.7k, and the Mexican peso was the only contract to gain, at +1.2k.
