Speculators significantly adjusted their positions in the Japanese Yen this past week, marking the largest shift among major currencies. Overall, the CFTC Commitments of Traders report for the week ending September 1, 2026, showed varied movements across the forex landscape.

Leveraged funds’ net short position in the Japanese Yen GREW by 25.1k contracts, bringing their total net short to 102.2k contracts. This position is near the 115.4k contract 52-week extreme. Asset managers were also net short 24.5k contracts, while legacy speculators held a net short of 92.2k contracts.

The Mexican Peso saw leveraged funds’ net long position GROW by 5.5k contracts, reaching 74.4k contracts. This net long position is near its 76.3k contract 52-week extreme. Asset managers were net long 68.1k contracts, and legacy speculators were net long 93.2k contracts.

In the British Pound, leveraged funds’ net long position SHRANK by 4.7k contracts, settling at a net long of 43.2k contracts. This net long position remains near its 47.9k contract 52-week extreme. Asset managers held a substantial net short of 107.3k contracts, indicating a divergence in positioning from leveraged funds.

Leveraged funds’ net long position in the Australian Dollar FELL by 4.4k contracts, resulting in a net long of 49.7k contracts. Asset managers were net short 30.5k contracts, and legacy speculators were net short 39.4k contracts.

Notable increases in open interest were observed in the Australian Dollar, which rose by 57.8k contracts, and the Euro, which increased by 46.9k contracts.
