Italy’s S&P Global Services PMI for August was reported at 52.5. This figure came in above the consensus expectation of 50.8. The previous month’s reading was 50.2. The actual print represented a 3.3% surprise compared to the consensus forecast.

Following the release, EUR pairs showed varied movements over the first 15 minutes. EURAUD moved -6.8 pips, EURCAD moved -1.5 pips, and EURGBP moved -1.4 pips. EURCHF gained 3.7 pips, EURJPY gained 3.4 pips, and EURUSD gained 2.3 pips. EURNZD saw the largest move, dropping -19 pips. Compared to historical median 1-hour moves, the 15-minute reactions for EURCAD, EURCHF, EURGBP, EURJPY, and EURUSD were relatively small. EURAUD’s -6.8 pips was less than its median 1-hour move of 12 pips. EURNZD’s -19 pips was larger than its median 1-hour move of 14 pips. Historically, EURCHF’s median 1-hour move is 5 pips, EURGBP’s is 7 pips, EURJPY’s is 11 pips, and EURUSD’s is 9 pips.
