New York traders begin the week with a mixed global equity picture and a slightly risk-off tone, as the Risk Meter stands at -0.04. Asian markets saw the JP225 decline by -1.27% and the USTEC by -0.77%, while European indices like the DE40 gained +0.45%. The US30 is up +0.52%. In currencies, the Japanese Yen leads with +0.62% strength over 24 hours, while the Australian Dollar is the weakest, down -0.30%, with AUDUSD itself falling -0.35%.

Overnight, manufacturing PMI data showed varied results. South Africa’s Absa Manufacturing PMI came in at 46.8 against a consensus of 51.6, a significant surprise of -9.3%. In Europe, the UK’s S&P Global/CIPS Manufacturing PMI registered 51.9 versus a 52.8 consensus, while the Eurozone S&P Global Manufacturing PMI was 51.9 against 52. The session ahead is dominated by key US manufacturing indicators. At 13:45 UTC, the S&P Global Manufacturing PMI (USD) is due, with a consensus of 54.5 following a previous 55.7. This is followed at 14:00 UTC by a series of ISM Manufacturing releases, including the high impact ISM Manufacturing PMI (USD), expected at 54.0 against a previous 53.3, and ISM Manufacturing Prices Paid (USD), with a consensus of 65.7 from a previous 73. Traders will also watch ISM Manufacturing Prices (USD) and ISM Manufacturing Employment (USD).

The ISM Manufacturing PMI (USD) at 14:00 UTC is the most anticipated data point for the New York session.
