First-time applications for U.S. unemployment benefits unexpectedly decreased to 194,000 for the week ending October 24th, falling below economists’ forecast of 199,000 and the prior week’s revised figure of 195,000. This decline suggests continued tightness in the labor market. Additionally, the four-week moving average for initial claims also dropped by 1,250 to 196,750. Continuing jobless claims, reported for the week ending October 17th, also saw a significant reduction, falling to 1.701 million against an expected 1.720 million. The stronger-than-anticipated labor market data provided support for the U.S. Dollar.
