The latest US Continuing Jobless Claims report showed 1.799M individuals claiming unemployment benefits for the week ending August 13, 2026. This figure was higher than the consensus expectation of 1.777M and also above the previous week’s revised figure of 1.777M. The actual print represented a 1.2% surprise compared to the market consensus.

Following the release, the US Dollar saw mixed reactions against major currencies. Five minutes after the data, AUDUSD was down 1.6 pips, EURUSD was down 5.8 pips, and GBPUSD was down 8.1 pips. NZDUSD was down 3.6 pips. Conversely, USDCAD was up 5.5 pips, USDCHF was up 6.1 pips, and USDJPY was up 11 pips. Gold, XAUUSD, was down 70 pips. By 15 minutes post-release, most pairs had reversed some of their initial moves. AUDUSD was up 4.0 pips, EURUSD up 2.8 pips, GBPUSD up 3.3 pips, and NZDUSD up 2.8 pips. USDCAD was up 2.2 pips, USDCHF was down 2.5 pips, and USDJPY was down 2.3 pips. XAUUSD was up 68 pips. These measured moves so far are generally smaller than the median 1-hour moves observed after past releases, which typically range from 8 to 28 pips for the listed currency pairs and gold.
