New Home Sales in the United States came in at 0.628 million for the latest period. This figure was significantly above the consensus estimate of 0.547 million, representing a 14.8% surprise. The previous month’s reading was 0.58 million.

Following the release, the US Dollar showed a mixed reaction against major currencies over the first 15 minutes. AUDUSD moved up 3.5 pips, while EURUSD moved down 3.9 pips. GBPUSD saw a minor change, down 0.1 pips. NZDUSD gained 2.0 pips, and USDCAD fell 3.9 pips. USDCHF was up 0.5 pips, and USDJPY rose 4.3 pips. Gold, XAUUSD, declined by 96 pips. Compared to typical median 1-hour moves, such as 8 pips for AUDUSD or 9 pips for USDJPY, the initial moves for most pairs were relatively small. XAUUSD’s move of 96 pips was larger than its typical median 1-hour move of 27 pips.
