Canada’s latest Trade Balance report, released today, showed a figure of 0.769B. This came in significantly below the consensus expectation of 3.831B, representing a -79.9% surprise. The previous month’s figure was 3.855B.

Following the release, the Canadian dollar experienced varied movements against major currencies. AUDCAD was up 9.0 pips after 15 minutes, compared to its median 1-hour move of 6 pips. CADCHF was down 4.3 pips, against a median 1-hour move of 6 pips. CADJPY was down 9.2 pips, with its median 1-hour move typically 11 pips.
