- CBRT holds one-week repo rate at 37.00%.
- Decision driven by Middle East geopolitical tensions.
- Aims to counter inflationary risks from energy prices.
The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) announced on Thursday that it would maintain its key one-week repo rate at 37.00 percent. This decision, which was widely anticipated, comes as the Monetary Policy Committee, led by Yasar Fatih Karahan, cited escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and their potential to drive up energy prices as a threat to the country’s disinflation process. The bank also kept the interest rate corridor unchanged, with the overnight lending rate at 40.0 percent and the overnight borrowing rate at 35.5 percent. This stance reflects a cautious approach to monetary policy, aiming to safeguard against renewed inflationary pressures stemming from external factors.
