- Turkish annual CPI cooled to 31.5% in August.
- Monthly inflation was 1.84%, below forecasts.
- Data supports potential CBRT rate cut.
Turkish annual consumer price inflation eased to 31.5% in August, marking a five-month low and falling below market expectations of 31.6%. This figure represents a slight decrease from 31.8% recorded in July, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute. Monthly inflation registered at 1.84%, also below the consensus forecast of 1.95%. While food and housing inflation components showed moderation, energy and transport costs experienced increases. Core inflation (CPI-C) rose to an annual 30.1%. The cooler-than-expected data strengthens the argument for a potential interest rate cut by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) as early as September, despite the current annual rate remaining significantly above the CBRT’s 24% target and 28% forecast.
