The US Unemployment Rate was released today, August 7, 2026, at 12:30 UTC. The actual figure came in at 4.1%. This was below the consensus expectation of 4.2% and also lower than the previous month’s rate of 4.2%. The actual rate represented a -2.4% surprise compared to the consensus forecast.

Following the release, the US Dollar generally weakened against major currencies. Fifteen minutes after the data, AUDUSD was up +33 pips, EURUSD was up +44 pips, GBPUSD was up +50 pips, and NZDUSD was up +32 pips. USDCAD moved down -45 pips, USDCHF was down -41 pips, and USDJPY declined by -106 pips. Gold, XAUUSD, gained +535 pips. These moves for AUDUSD, EURUSD, GBPUSD, NZDUSD, USDCAD, USDCHF, and USDJPY were all larger than their respective top-quarter moves measured after past releases. For XAUUSD, the +535 pips move was also larger than its top-quarter move of 124+ pips.
