The XAUUSD Trend Grid EA, published as Quantum Athena, is a free MetaTrader 5 robot built to trade XAUUSD (gold) using a trend-aligned grid strategy. It is a lighter sister of the well-known Quantum Queen (Gold Grid Strategy EA) and reuses a focused subset of its trading logic. Where Queen now ships 10 built-in strategies, Athena ships 6, all selected for the current 2026 gold regime.

The EA runs on a verified MQL5 live signal since August 2025 and a 2026 year-to-date backtest is available for cross-checking the recommended settings. This article covers the trading logic, key inputs, the live performance data captured on 2026-05-18, the backtest figures, and a free download link for MT5.

TL;DR – Free MT5 XAUUSD trend grid EA. Live signal shows 944% growth since August 2025 with a 73.6% win rate, but also a 36.8% equity drawdown and 41% max deposit load. Needs $500 minimum, hedging ECN account, 2-decimal gold quote, and a 24/5 VPS. Overall rating: 3.5 / 5.

What the XAUUSD Trend Grid EA Does

Quantum Athena is a grid trading system (averaging into multiple buy or sell orders at intervals) layered on top of a trend filter, so position adds are biased in the direction the market is already moving rather than fading every counter-move. The XAUUSD focus is deliberate: gold’s intraday volatility and structural daily trends make it a natural fit for grid logic, but only when the grid leans with the trend rather than against it.

  • 6 Built-In Strategies – A trimmed selection from the Quantum Queen strategy library, kept only where the 2026 gold price behaviour still validates them.
  • Trend-Aligned Grid – Adds positions in the direction of the active trend instead of mean-reverting against momentum, which reduces the worst-case scenario of grid systems (an unbounded one-way move).
  • Single-Pair Engine – Trades XAUUSD only. No portfolio sprawl, no per-pair preset confusion.
  • Low-Frequency Execution – The live signal records 0.12% trading activity and 24 trades per week, with an average position hold of 52 minutes.
  • Automatic Lot Sizing – The InpAutoLotsValue input scales lot size with account balance, removing manual lot calculation errors.

This trend-bias approach is closer in spirit to the Trend Following Gold MT4 & MT5 EA than to a classic mean-reverting grid, even though the order construction is still a grid. The result is a system that builds positions with direction in mind rather than randomly fighting moves.

Please test in a demo account first for at least a week. Also, please familiarize yourself with and understand how this Grid Strategy Robot works, then only use it in a real account.

Recommendations for Gold Strategy EA

  • Minimum deposit: $500 at 1:500 leverageRecommended: $1,000 or more.
  • Pair: XAUUSD only. The EA is not compatible with 3-decimal gold quotes (e.g. 2,685.500); you need a broker offering 2-decimal gold pricing (e.g. 2,685.50).
  • Account type: Hedging.
  • Recommended brokers: VT Markets, FP Trading, or any ECN / RAW / low-spread broker.
  • Leverage: Minimum 1:100, 1:500 recommended.
  • VPS: Mandatory. A 24/5 VPS is needed for the grid to manage open positions reliably (Reliable and Trusted FOREX VPS – FXVM).
  • Spread and execution: Low spread, low slippage, fast execution required (Find the Perfect Broker For You Here).
  • Use the Drawdown Calculator to confirm your account can absorb the live signal’s 36.78% equity drawdown before going live.

Performance Review: Live MQL5 Signal Data

The verified MQL5 live signal CapitalPointTrading-MT5-4 has been running Quantum Athena since August 2025 at 1:500 leverage. The figures below are taken from the signal screenshots captured 2026-05-18.

Real money, not paper

Across the full track record, $200 has been deposited and $494.90 has been withdrawn against current equity of $1,083. That means roughly $1,378 of net profit has been banked (extracted, not just floated in an open trade), which separates Athena from EAs that show big growth curves but never actually pay out. For evaluating a grid signal this is the first thing to check, because grids can show inflated equity from open positions that never close cleanly.

The 5% vs 37% drawdown gap is the real risk story

Balance drawdown is 5.16% but equity drawdown is 36.78%. The gap is the grid’s signature: closed-trade losses stay small (good win rate, tight TPs), but unrealised floating losses accumulate while the grid waits for price to come back. A trader who only watches the balance curve will be reassured by the 5% number while the actual account is sitting 37% underwater on open positions. The April 2026 drawdown spike visible on the equity chart, where the account dropped from roughly $1,500 to $1,000 in a short window, is what 37% equity drawdown actually looks like in practice. Size the starting capital for the 37%, not the 5%.

Win rate is hiding a thin per-trade edge

73.57% wins sound dominant, but average loss ($5.60) is larger than average profit ($5.14). Per individual trade the system loses money on a 50/50 split; the 2.56 profit factor only exists because winners outnumber losers nearly 3 to 1. This is fragile. If the win rate slips even 5 points (to 68%), the profit factor drops below 1.7 and the equity curve flattens. Watch the rolling win rate over the next few months as the real-time validation.

The result is regime-dependent

567 of 598 trades were long (94.82%). The system has been net long gold for its entire live history, which coincides with gold’s 2024-2026 uptrend. Short-side logic exists (31 trades, 69.23% win rate) but has been barely exercised. If gold enters a sustained downtrend, the short side gets tested for the first time at scale, and the trend filter has to flip without the equity curve unwinding. Until that happens, the live track record is not yet evidence the system survives a regime change. The Gold High Frequency Scalping EA is a more directionally balanced alternative for traders who want exposure to both sides.

2026 Year-to-Date Backtest

The backtest looks materially better than the live signal because tester runs ignore variable spreads, slippage, news gaps, and broker-side execution quirks. The number to anchor on is the 49.48% equity drawdown in the tester. That is the realistic stress number the system can produce on the cleanest possible execution. On a live ECN account, expect drawdown to land somewhere between the tester’s 49% and the live signal’s 37%, and size the account accordingly.

Live Performance
Strategy Design
Risk Management

✓ Pros

  • Trend-aligned grid logic; positions are added with momentum rather than against it
  • 6 built-in strategies selected specifically for current XAUUSD price behaviour
  • Single-pair focus (XAUUSD only) keeps the engine simple and the inputs short
  • Low-frequency execution by design (~24 trades per week, 52-minute average hold)

✗ Cons

  • Still a grid system at heart; floating losses can run while the basket recovers
  • Heavy long bias by design and in live results, so untested in a sustained gold downtrend
  • Strict broker requirements: 2-decimal gold quote, hedging account, ECN/RAW spread
  • MT5 only; no MT4 build

Summary

3.3

A focused, lite version of the Quantum Queen gold grid system, narrowed to 6 strategies tuned for the 2026 XAUUSD regime. The live track record is short (9 months) but consistent month-on-month. Equity drawdown and deposit load are the main risks; this is not a prop firm EA.

Who This EA Is For

This EA is for you if:

  • You trade XAUUSD and want a free MT5 grid system with a verified live signal
  • You have at least $1,000 capital, an ECN account with 2-decimal gold pricing, and a VPS
  • You accept 35–50% equity drawdown as the price for grid-style compounding

This EA is NOT for you if:

  • You trade prop firm challenges with sub-10% drawdown limits
  • Your broker quotes gold to 3 decimal places (e.g. 2,685.500)
  • You want a no-monitoring set-and-forget; grid systems need account-size oversight

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Quantum Athena is a lighter sister of Quantum Queen, sharing strategy lineage but trimmed to 6 built-in strategies versus Queen’s 10. Both target XAUUSD on MT5 and both are free. Athena’s track record is shorter (since August 2025) and its equity drawdown is higher (36.78% vs 21.16% on Queen).
The minimum deposit is $500 at 1:500 leverage, with $1,000 or more recommended. The live signal recorded a 41.14% maximum deposit load, so adequate starting capital is important for surviving the grid’s accumulation phases.
No. The live signal’s 36.78% equity drawdown and the 49.48% drawdown observed in the 2026 backtest both exceed typical prop firm rules, which limit drawdown to 5–10%. This EA is built for personal accounts where you control the maximum drawdown limit.
The EA requires a hedging account, ECN / RAW / low-spread pricing, and most importantly a 2-decimal gold quote (e.g. 2,685.50, not 2,685.500). Recommended brokers from the developer are VT Markets and FP Trading, with IC Markets RAW also commonly used by Quantum Queen users.
The signal records a 94.82% long bias because the EA’s trend filter has spent most of August 2025 to May 2026 reading gold as an uptrend, and the grid has therefore biased buy-side. If the gold trend reverses for an extended period, expect short-side exposure to rise and short-side performance to be tested for the first time.

Conclusion

Quantum Athena is a legitimate, lighter version of the Quantum Queen gold grid system, narrowed to 6 strategies and a single pair for cleaner execution. The live signal is genuine and the 73.57% win rate plus 2.56 profit factor across 598 trades hold up to scrutiny. However, the 36.78% live equity drawdown and 41% deposit load are real costs of the grid approach, and the 94.82% long bias means the system has been tested in a favourable gold regime, not a hostile one. For a personal account with $1,000+, an ECN broker with 2-decimal gold pricing, and a VPS, this is a reasonable free addition to the gold EA shortlist. For prop firm accounts or thinner capital it is not the right tool.
